Privacy policy
Last updated 14 March 2026
Kestrel Freight Ltd ("Kestrel", "we", "us") collects and handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020. This policy covers our website, tracking service and delivery operations.
What we collect
- Sender and recipient details: names, delivery addresses, phone numbers and email addresses provided when a consignment is booked.
- Delivery records: scan events, locations, timestamps, signatures and proof-of-delivery photos.
- Account information: for business customers, contact details and billing information.
- Website data: IP address, browser type, pages visited and tracking numbers searched, recorded in our server logs.
How we use it
We use personal information to collect and deliver consignments, give you tracking updates, deal with enquiries and claims, invoice business customers, and keep our systems secure. We don't sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information only as needed to deliver your parcel or run our business. That includes our IT and hosting providers, payment processors for business accounts, and authorities where the law requires it. Some providers store data outside New Zealand. When they do, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act.
Tracking lookups
Anyone with a tracking number can see a consignment's status, destination town and scan history. We don't show names, street addresses or phone numbers on the public tracking page. Treat your tracking number like a receipt.
Security
Staff systems need individual accounts, and access is logged. We monitor our website and systems for misuse. Logs of suspicious activity may be kept for longer than usual and shared with law enforcement or security partners.
How long we keep it
Delivery records are kept for seven years to meet tax and contractual obligations. Website logs are kept for up to 12 months unless they're needed to investigate a security incident.
Cookies
Our public site doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies. The staff portal stores a sign-in token in your browser for the length of your session.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Contact our privacy officer at privacy@kestrelfreight.co.nz. We'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page.
